Frequently Asked Questions

What is equine assisted learning?

Equine assisted learning and therapies. EAT/L is a form of animal assisted therapy, and it is an evidence based intervention with peer reviewed research. Horses are an integral part of the learning and healing process where individuals and groups interact with horses to help facilitate change.

How does it work?

EAT/L offers a holistic approach to personal development, helping to overcome social, emotional and behavioural challenges. Individuals and groups work with the horses and specialised workers in programs that are bespoke to their needs. Horses provide a no judgement space to connect, and immediate behavioural feedback to their handlers.

Is it safe?

Yes. Our staff have considerable experience working with all aspects of horses and will guide clients and visitors through the process with a great deal of care and awareness for both the horses and the clients. And our clients will be provided with all the necessary safety equipment for their sessions.

Do I need experience?

No experience is required. We are a fully inclusive service and if service users have a fear of horses then we will work individually with them at a suitable pace.

Why horses?

Horses are a prey animal, and by nature are able to pick up and “read” the subtle reactions and body language. Horses reflect human beings body language and can detect the core person with total honesty. As herd animals, horses naturally want to be with people and create a positive space with them.

Do I have to ride?

No, riding is not necessary to get the full benefit of our programs and anyone who chooses not to ride will not miss out on any learning. Our service is inclusive to all service users.
